PER.1: Usain Bolt's 100m World Record Analysis

Today in class, we examined the concept of an average rate of change by analyzing different intervals of Usain Bolt's 100m World Record run at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. We used data from the article, "Bolt's 9.69s. Analysis of speed during the world record. How fast did Bolt run?" Please add a comment regarding the race interval that your group was responsible for. Include the calculation that you used to determine the average velocity. This may be a good opportunity to try out the sitmo link on the right-hand side of the blog.) See video.

  1. average velocity for 20m-30m:

    =d2-d1/t2-t1
    =30-20/3.78-2.87
    =10/0.91
    =10.09 m/s

  2. Average velocity for 20 m to 30 m

    = d2-d1/t2-t1
    = 30-20/3.78-2.87
    = 10/.91
    = 10.98 m/s

    I got a different answer then you,magdalena

  3. The average velocity between the interval of 50 to 60 m:

    Distance travelled(delta d =d2-d1)=
    60m-50m=10 m
    Time Elapsed (delta t= t2-t1)=
    6.32s- 5.5s= 0.82 s
    Average velocity(delta d/ delta t)= 10m/0.82s= 12.2 m/s

  4. Interval: 50m - 60m,
    Distance travelled was: 60m - 50m = 10m
    Time Elapsed: 6.32s - 5.5s = 0.82s
    Average Velocity: 10m / 0.82s = 12.2m/z

  5. for the intervel between 30 to 40m the average velocity was 11.5m/s.

the distance travelled was 10m and the time elapsed during this interval was 0.87s. so in finding the average velocity you divide 10m/0.87s and you attain the answer 11.5m/s.

  6. The interval is : 80- 90
    distance travelled is 10m
    time elasped was .83 seconds

    10/.83 = 12.04 m/s

  7. interval: 90-100m
    distance traveled: 10m
    time: 0.9s
    average velocity: 11.1m/s

  8. Interval: 0-10m
    Distance Traveled: 10m
    Time Elapsed: 1.85s
    Average Velocity: 5.4m/s

  9. interval: 40-50
    distance travelled: 10m
    time elapsed: 0.85s
    average velocity: 10/0.85= 11.76m/s

  10. interval: 30 to 40
    distance: 10 m
    time elasped: 0.91
    average velocity: 11.49 m/s

same answer as Matt and John except I rounded to 2 decimal places

  12. AROC [80-90]

    v=Δd/Δt
    =d2-d1 / t2-t1
    =90m-80m / 8.79s-7.96s
    =10m / 0.83s
    =12.048 m/s

    BAM.

  13. & kwon, i'm pretty sure you put your decimal place in wrong spot 'cause...
    1.18 m/s is pretty slow. :)

  14. Usain Bolt from 40m to 50m.
    distance travelled: 10 m
    time elapsed: 0.85s
    avergae velocity:11.8m/s

  15. Mr.Bolt from 40m-50m
    d2-d1/t2-t1
    =50m-40m/5.5s-4.65s
    =10m/0.85s
    =11.76m/s
THUS! Mr.Bolt lives up to his name.

  16. Interval: 60-70m

    Distance travelled: 10m

    Time elapsed: 0.82s

    Average Velocity: 12.20m/s

  17. Usain Bolt from 90-100:

    distance travelled = 10m
    time elapsed = 0.9s

    avg. velocity = delta d/delta t
    = 10m/0.9s
    = 11.1m/s

  18. Interval: 70-80m
    Distance travelled: 10m
    Time Elapsed: 0.9s
    Avg. Velo. :11.11m/s (rounded)

  19. Usain Bolt from 70-80m

    distance travelled = 10m

    elapsed time: 0.9s

    average velocity: 11.11m/s

    lolwat pretty speed

  20. Interval = 10m - 20m
    Distance Traveled = 10m
    Time Elapsed = 1.02s
Average Velocity = Delta Distance / Delta Time
    = 10m / 1.02s
    = 9.8m/s
Therefore from 10m to 20m Usian Bolt's average velocity is 9.8m/s.

  21. BOLT : 70 - 80 M
    80m - 70m = 10 m
    ;therefore, he travlled 10 m
    elapsed time : 0.9 s
    10m/ 0.9s = 11.11 m/s
    AVERAGE VELOCITY : 11.11 m/s

  22. interval: 90-100m
    distance traveled: 10m
    time: 0.9s
    average velocity: 11.1m/s

  23. Interva is 60m to 70m
    Distance travelled: 70m-60m= 10m
    Time Elapsed: 7.14s-6.32s= 0.82s
    Average Velocity: \Deltad \div \Deltat
    =10m/ 0.82s
    \doteq12.20m/s
Therefore, Usain Bolt's average velocity from interval 60m-70m was 12.20m/s.
